Betty Wright Therapies

Therapies Offered #01 Holistic Massage Therapy
One of the first questions I get asked about holistic massage is "What does holistic mean?" Holistic means 'whole'. This form of massage deals with you as a 'whole'. Like other therapies, it is not just looking to treat the symptoms, but to establish the cause, whether it be internal or external. The aim is to rebalance the body so it achieves homeostasis or balance.

Massage benefits both mind and body. It is rare that we take an hour to lie down, close our eyes and just 'be'. An hour's peace and quiet away from ringing phones and demanding children has a definite restorative effect. For the body, the massage helps taut muscles learn to relax and this, combined with strokes to aid lymphatic drainage, helps to release toxins. The benefits can be felt by all ages, backgrounds and lifestyles. Emotional tension and the day to day stresses that life throws at us can manifest in headaches caused by a stiff neck and shoulders and the body generally tensing up in response to stress, especially if there is not the opportunity to release. Massage can help people to deal with emotional problems such as grief and depression.

Therapies Offered #02Reiki Healing
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Energy". This energy is in the world around us, is within all living things, and also surrounds us (the aura). It is believed to be at least 2,500 years old, it came originally from the Mu people, it was passed to Tibetan Buddhist monks and re-discovered in the 1800's by Mikao Usui.
It is when there is not enough life energy or it is moving too slowly that illness can result. It helps with joint pain, stress, emotional wellbeing, relaxation.

Benefits of Reiki
Reiki is gentle, yet powerful. It works on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, according to the needs of the recipient.

Some of the many benefits of Reiki include:

Relief of a wide range of symptoms (such as insomnia, stress, anxiety)
Alleviation of pain
Deep relaxation
Strengthening of the body’s natural healing powers
Increased calmness
Greater ability to cope with the stresses and challenges of daily life
Regaining of clarity and perspective
Greater awareness of personal potential
Blossoming of hidden talents and creativity

Only good can come from Reiki.

What to expect in a Reiki treatment
During a Reiki treatment, the recipient lies relaxing (fully clothed) on my comfortable couch, while I place my hands on or just above their body (at their choice; this will be discussed beforehand) in a series of non-invasive positions, each one held for a number of minutes while the Reiki flows through me and into the recipient from my hands.

The Reiki flows to wherever the recipient most needs it at the time, helping to restore balance. Most people feel Reiki energy as heat, some people also see beautiful colours, and almost everyone experiences a profound sense of relaxation and peace. Reiki really is unique.

Treatments cost £30 and last for about an hour, and the beneficial effects are often felt for several days afterwards.

Reiki has few, if any, contraindications.
